Cytokines are critical in the pathogenetic process of rheumatoid arthritis, particularly tumour-necrosis-factor (TNF)-\u03b1, interleukin (IL)-1 and IL-6. Biologic disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) inhibit these messengers and thereby influence the disease course.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">\n<p class=\"bodytext\">TNF-\u03b1 inhibiting biologic DMARDs: Benepali\u00ae (etanercept), Cimzia\u00ae (certolizumab pegol), Enbrel\u00ae (etanercept), Erelzi\u00ae (etanercept), Flixabi\u00ae (infliximab), Humira\u00ae (adalimumab), Inflectra\u00ae (infliximab), Remicade\u00ae (infliximab), Remsima\u00ae (infliximab), Simponi\u00ae (golimumab)<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">IL-1 inhibiting biologic DMARDs: Kineret\u00ae (anakinra)<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">IL-6 inhibiting biologic DMARDs: Kevzara\u00ae (sarilumab), RoACTEMRA\u00ae (tocilizumab)<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">\n<p class=\"bodytext\">\n<p class=\"bodytext\">Further essential players in the rheumatic inflammatory cascade are B and T lymphocytes.
